Murchison Falls provides productive wildlife viewing throughout the year. The dry seasons from December to February and June to September concentrate animals around the river and keep track conditions dry. The green seasons from March to May and October to November provide lush scenery and rich birdwatching opportunities.

The park is located approximately 305 kilometres northwest of Kampala, taking about five to six hours by paved road via Masindi. The northern gate can also be accessed via Karuma Falls. Daily scheduled light aircraft flights operate from Entebbe International Airport to Pakuba, Bugungu, and Chobe airstrips.
