About Akagera National Park
Rewilded Savanna and Central Africa's Largest Protected Wetland
Covering 1,120 square kilometres along Rwanda’s eastern border with Tanzania, Akagera National Park protects a scenic mosaic of rolling brachystegia woodland, acacia savannas, and interconnected freshwater lakes. Managed in partnership between the Rwanda Development Board and African Parks, Akagera represents a premier conservation recovery model.
Big Five Restoration
Lions were reintroduced in 2015, followed by black rhinos in 2017 and white rhinos in 2021. Today, Akagera hosts all of Africa's Big Five roaming across the Kilala Plains and Mutumba Hills.
Lake Ihema Boat Safaris
