About Day Forest National Park
An Ancient Forest Oasis in the Goda Mountains
Rising abruptly above the arid plains of central Djibouti, the Goda Mountains host Day Forest National Park (Parc National de la Forêt du Day). Covering roughly 15 square kilometres at elevations between 1,200 and 1,780 metres, this mountain park preserves the largest remaining forest tract in Djibouti.
Endemic Wildlife and Mountain Treks
The forest is dominated by ancient East African juniper (Juniperus procera), wild olive trees, and frankincense trees, nourished by coastal mist. The park is the exclusive home of the critically endangered Djibouti spurfowl (Pternistis ochropectus)—one of Africa's rarest gamebirds.
